RENEWABLE ENERGY

Renewable investments reduce reliance on fossil fuel
Bridging the gap to a more sustainable energy grid will require significant investment.

A future with more sustainable energy sources will require diversifying the current energy grid by investing in renewables. Reliance on fossil fuels is not only bad for the environment, but also depleting finite resources. The demand for renewable energy is increasing as companies and governments announce clean energy commitments.

ENERGY ATTRIBUTE CERTIFICATES

What are renewable energy projects?

Renewable energy projects generate energy from renewable sources. However, that renewable energy joins energy from non-renewable sources in a grid where electricity flows along the path of least resistance. In order to track and claim energy from renewable sources in this blended system, companies purchase energy attribute certificates (EACs). One EAC represents 1,000-kilowatt-hours (or 1-Megawatt-hour) of electricity that has been generated and delivered to the electricity grid from a renewable source.

PROJECT METHODOLOGIES

Renewable energy can be generated from a variety of sources

By purchasing EACs, organizations support projects that reduce the greenhouse gas emissions from the power grid by supplying energy from a diverse collection of renewable sources.

Wind Energy

As wind turns the propeller of wind turbines, it generates either mechanical power or electricity (also known as wind power).

Landfill Gas

Landfill-gas-to-energy (LFGTE) projects capture methane gas for electricity and heat, turning a potent greenhouse gas into energy.

Biogas

Biogas systems capture methane gas through a process called anaerobic digestion and convert the gas into energy.

Solar Energy

Solar energy (light and heat from the sun) is harnessed and converted into an electric current.

Geothermal Energy

These projects harness natural thermal energy by pumping hot water deep below the Earth’s surface and creating steam.

Hydropower

Hydropower projects use running water, without reducing its quantity, to produce electricity (also known as hydroelectricity)

EAC MARKETS

International Renewable Energy Tracking Systems

EACs go by different names within the global energy market depending on location, but each type represents the same 1,000 kwh measurement. Below are some of the most common EACs in the markets we serve.

THIRD-PARTY VERIFICATION
EAC Tracking & Verification

Energy attribute certificate purchases are tracked on public registries managed by a variety of third-party organizations around the world. Ipsum Advisors manages the whole process, from purchasing EACs to retiring them on third-party-verified public registries in our clients’ names.
